If the picture stutters, it's usually your own network or device – not the provider. These steps solve most cases.

First aid

  1. Close other programs and downloads on the device.
  2. Pause the stream for a minute so the buffer fills, then start it again.
  3. Choose a smaller resolution – for example the FHD or HD channel instead of RAW.
  4. Restart the router and the device: unplug, wait 20 seconds, plug in again.

Your network

  • Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi – more stable. If Wi-Fi, then 5 GHz instead of 2.4 GHz.
  • Switch off devices that use bandwidth on the side (phones, tablets, smart-home cameras).
  • Keep the router firmware and the device up to date.
  • Try another route: set DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 or briefly try a VPN – it can help, but can also slow things down.
  • Between 8 and 10 pm the networks are full; then only a smaller channel often helps.

Buy cheap, buy twice. Plan on €70 to €90 and look for at least 2–3 GB RAM, 32–64 GB storage, a quad-core CPU and current Android TV. Our picks are under Hardware recommendations.

  • 4K stutters with a memory card? The card is usually too slow – use an “Extreme” or “Ultra” card with U3.
  • Kodi runs better on an external TV box than directly on the smart TV. Smart TVs are often too weak for it.
