Our recommendation is the Fire TV Stick 4K Max: fast, with stable Wi-Fi and our StreamTV TiviMate app. Here are all devices our app runs on – and which Fire TV Sticks you shouldn't buy.
Fire TV Stick 4K Max Fire TV Stick 4K Plus Fire TV Cube NVIDIA Shield Xiaomi TV Box S Don't buy
Fire TV Stick 4K Max – our recommendation
Our favourite: Wi-Fi 6E for stable Wi-Fi and enough power for 4K. It plugs into the TV's HDMI port. View on Amazon
Fire TV Stick 4K Plus
A little cheaper than the 4K Max and also does 4K. Don't mix it up with the new “Fire TV Stick 4K (2026)” – that one runs Vega OS. View on Amazon
Fire TV Cube
With a network port and Alexa voice control. Good if you'd rather stream by cable than Wi-Fi. View on Amazon
NVIDIA Shield TV Pro
If you already have a Shield, our app runs on it: powerful, with 4K and a network port. Buying one new hardly makes sense any more – it is hard to find and usually much more expensive than it used to be. To stream by cable, get the Fire TV Cube instead.
Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen)
An affordable box with Google TV, 4K, Dolby Vision and Wi-Fi 6 – the alternative if you prefer Google TV. Look for “3rd Gen” in the name: the older 2nd generation only has 8 GB of storage instead of 32 GB. View on Amazon
Don't buy these Fire TV Sticks
- Fire TV Stick 4K Select, HD (2026) and 4K (2026)They run Vega OS. Neither Downloader nor our app can be installed there. Already have a stick? To check: Settings › My Fire TV › About – if it says “Fire OS”, it works. Otherwise get one of the devices above.
